Fausto Melotti

Fausto Melotti was born in 1901, he studied in Florence and Milan, obtaining a diploma as an electronic engineer. But the turning point came with his attendance at the Brera Academy, which in addition to being a point of reference for him, put him in contact with two personalities who would greatly influence his art: Adolfo Wildt and Lucio Fontana, a fellow student and faithful friend. In the mid-1930s, Fausto held his first solo exhibition. His works, however, did not arouse any kind of interest in spectators. Melotti's sculptures were rejected by the general public. The artist was greatly affected by these criticisms, so much so that he abandoned the path of creation to devote himself to teaching. He would return to his first love only 30 years later, when abstraction was already a trend.
