Giorgio de Chirico

Giorgio de Chirico was born on 10 July 1888 in Volos, Greece, where his engineer father was involved in the construction of the Athens-Thessaloniki railway line. He was an Italian painter, sculptor and writer, the main exponent of the artistic movement of Metaphysics. He studied in Athens and then in Munich, where he attended the Academy of Fine Arts, training on the pictorial texts of Bocklin and Klinger and on the philosophical writings of Schopenhauer, Nietzsche and Weininger.
