Birth of the King of Rome "the Eaglet"

French miniaturist, painter, draftsman, and lithographer (Nancy 1767 - Paris 1855). In 1785 he went to Paris and, after some difficulty, entered the studio of J.-L. David. By the beginning of the Revolution, his fame as a portrait miniaturist was already well-established, and it grew during the Directory, culminating under the Empire. Appointed "painter-draftsman" to the emperor (of whom, as well as of his family, he executed numerous portraits), his activity was not limited to this field. As "chief decorator of the imperial theaters," he organized celebrations, performances, and ceremonies (including the coronation). His drawings and designs for productions, decorations, costumes, and uniforms made him, along with Percier and Fontaine, one of the major architects of the Empire style.
